In return, you pay for it.<\/li><li><strong>Physical separation<\/strong> from production: a fire in the server rack does not take down the standby, provided users can still reach it.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a871722 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a871722\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Cons<\/h2><ul><li><strong>The local agent must survive.<\/strong> If the BCP relies on an agent on your premises to redirect traffic, that agent disappears with the switch, a fire in the building or a general power cut. A <strong>server<\/strong> BCP is not a <strong>site<\/strong> BCP. For a destroyed site, you need remote access and public addresses, tested separately.<\/li><li><strong>The Internet link becomes vital.<\/strong> Data, and sometimes sessions, go through the VPN to the provider. A single connection, saturated or cut, stops the standby just when you need it. A second connection is often the real forgotten expense.<\/li><li><strong>Data consistency.<\/strong> A permanent standby is only useful if it has received the transactions. An unmeasured lag is a hidden RPO. The ANSSI, France&#8217;s national cybersecurity agency, suggests replication where data loss must be under 24 hours, while considering an offline backup essential: if the standby received the ransomware as fast as the users did, it is not a backup.<\/li><li><strong>Failback.<\/strong> Data entered on the standby during the outage must be brought back to the repaired server. Without a procedure, you lose that period or end up with two diverging databases.<\/li><li><strong>Licences.<\/strong> The business software vendor must authorise this permanent instance. Some contracts prohibit it or charge for it.<\/li><li><strong>Ongoing cost.<\/strong> You pay for the months without outages. That is normal. It is too expensive if the application could in fact tolerate half a day of downtime.<\/li><li><strong>The false impression of testing.<\/strong> A running instance is not a tested failover. The ANSSI recommends obtaining the list of all storage locations, including standby sites, and providing for a security assurance plan and a <strong>reversibility<\/strong> clause. If personal data is processed, the provider is a \u201cprocessor\u201d within the meaning of the Data Protection Act 2017 (Mauritius): section 31 requires a written contract, under which it acts only on the customer&#8217;s instructions and remains bound by the same security obligations. Also make sure it uses another sub-processor only with your written consent, alerts you without delay in the event of a breach (you must notify within 72 hours where feasible, section 25), and at the end of the contract returns or destroys all the data, copies included.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-09b7894 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"09b7894\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>When it is the right choice<\/h2><p>One or two servers where an hour of downtime costs more than the annual subscription, a local network able to host the agent, a decent link, and still a historical backup alongside for the day the standby itself turns out to be bad. The ANSSI points out that a cyber-related crisis can last several weeks: the BCP must be able to hold for that long, not just a few hours.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-171d8f5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"171d8f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wdb-g-brand\"><h2>At WeDoBack<\/h2><p>The <a href=\"\/en\/bcp-offer\/\">BCP offer<\/a> matches this model: cloud instances running permanently from \u20ac50.22 excl. VAT per month, storage from \u20ac8.75 excl. VAT per month for 50 GB (\u20ac175 excl. VAT per TB), an agent on the customer&#8217;s network, IPsec VPN, takeover with no IP address change, and traffic returned to the repaired server. Data replication or synchronisation between the BCP instance and the original server is not handled natively: it requires a specific process, defined according to the need (database, files, business application), including to carry over to the repaired server the data entered on the instance during the incident. WeDoBack can set it up on <a href=\"\/en\/quotation\/\">quotation<\/a>. The limitations above apply as they stand, in particular the dependence on the local agent and the link. The <a href=\"\/en\/drp-offer\/\">DRP<\/a> remains available for the \u201cthe site is gone\u201d or \u201cwe need a version from before the attack\u201d scenarios. If the standby receives changes continuously, it also receives the encrypted files. You need a historical backup, ideally immutable, to go back to a version from before the attack. The BCP covers failures; the history covers corruption and encryption.<\/p><\/details><details><summary>What happens if the site&#8217;s Internet connection is cut?<\/summary><p>If the BCP relies on a VPN between the site and the provider, a link outage isolates the standby just when you need it.
